\u201cThis presentation begins with the premise that the large-scale transformation of the Tokyo Bay landscape exemplifies a hyperobject\u2014an entity so vast and ungraspable that it challenges human perception and imagination. Such transformations can erode and repress history, memory, experience, and the affect associated with place. The presentation scrutinizes how artificial islands and reclaimed land have been represented in film and literature and demonstrates how they counteract these erasures by inventing alternative environmental narratives. Furthermore, it explores how these representations connect to broader and more abstract narratives of urban development and environmental history through a lens of particularity.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
