Japan Past & Present launched Japan Scholar Search (JSS) in 2024 as part of its mission to promote scholarly communication and exchange, and to bring about a more equitable and inclusive future for the Japanese humanities. Already, researchers based in more than 40 countries, and active in a wide variety of fields, have published profiles that help colleagues around the world discover their work using a variety of filters or search terms. At the same time, JSS also helps scholars connect with each other by making it possible to send and receive contact requests internally, without needing to rely on a public email address. Users can create a profile in English, Japanese, or both. We highly recommend creating both, and make it easy to do so! Once you have created and saved a profile in one language, simply switch to the second language (your information will carry over!), make any necessary adjustments, and save the second profile. If you prefer, you can include different information in each profile. Just visit https://japanpastandpresent.org/en/resources/japan-scholar-search/ and click the “Register” button on the right or go to https://japanpastandpresent.org/en/japan-scholar-search/register.

Recent Publications

JPP’s Recent Publications page is a page advertising, in one place, recent book and journal publications in the Japanese humanities from publishers around the world in any language. Having information about new books and making it easy to filter them by period, topic, and language encourages scholars to visit the JPP website regularly, while helping to support publishers by providing them with a free platform to advertise efficiently and effectively.
