Additionnellement, si vous disposez d\u00e9j\u00e0 de l\u2019information, merci de nous communiquer en m\u00eame temps que votre envoi vos possibilit\u00e9s, ou non, de financement pour vous pr\u00e9senter au colloque. Dans la mesure o\u00f9 notre budget est contraint,&nbsp;<strong>nous encourageons les&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/participant.es\/\">participant.es<\/a>&nbsp;\u00e0 privil\u00e9gier un financement individuel<\/strong>. The symposium invites contributions around&nbsp;<strong>four main themes<\/strong>&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I &#8211; Genre, Formats, and Filmic objects<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, we invite contributors to discuss the boundaries of what constitutes a research object when studying film, be it from a material or aesthetic standpoint, especially in Japan. To what extent do Japanese filmic forms challenge classifications and methods ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Relationship between film and other media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dominant and alternative formats<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seriality, franchises and multiple instances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adaptations, re-use and (self)-remakes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formation and historical evolution of genres and industrial categories&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Historical evolution and transformations of categories or formats<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Definition criteria of film in industrial fields, heritage practice and aesthetic practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Platforms, video and new industry actors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Characters, actors, idols, stars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amateur and commercial works<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>II &#8211; Cultural practice, consumption practice and film practice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Practices of film production and consumption in Japan seem to be more readily determined by industrial dynamics and consumption practices. To what extent do these practices, be it of production or of consumption, determine the legitimation of filmic objects in Japan as a whole ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Professional trajectories across artistic practices and media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Media industries, the studio system and production structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interaction and influences within and across media (film, literature, music\u2026)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industrial groups and their action on shaping the industry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mainstream and alternative practices of consuming and producing media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constitution and evolution of audiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Self) definition of audiences: age, gender, class, geography, interests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Popular culture, consumer culture, transmedia culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transformative cultures and fandoms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transnational flows and exchanges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Objects and mechanisms of consumption : narrativity, seriality, database, character vs. world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>III &#8211; Discourses, Institutions, Policies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, contributors are invited to discuss the contexts, structures, and terminologies of critical, institutional and political discourses legitimating filmic objects in Japan. What groups, what interests, and what strategies are employed in these discourses, whether central or peripheral&nbsp; ?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>National and international festivals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discourses around \u201cJapan\u201d and \u201cJapanese cinema\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contexts and practices of commercial and non-commercial film criticism&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translation, adaptation, localization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Terminology, technical lexicon and their evolution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legitimation through cultural institutions, inside and outside Japan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transnational approaches, cultural collaboration, and soft-power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Definition, objectives and motivations of film policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education and propaganda through films and other media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Auteur and auteurism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authorship, copyright and their understanding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heritage policies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IV &#8211; Methods, Theories, Sources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this section, we welcome discussions on methodological issues (including those related to fieldwork) and multidisciplinary approaches. A limited number of online presentations may be possible for presenters travelling from outside Europe. The symposium may lead to the publication of an edited&nbsp; volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will cover hotel accommodation for all in-person presenters. We have a limited budget for travel support, prioritised for PhD students and early-career researchers without institutional travel funding, followed by presenters travelling within Europe with limited institutional support. Travel from outside Europe cannot be covered, but we are happy to provide formal invitation letters to support funding applications at presenters\u2019 home institutions.
