Open-Rank Position in the French Language; Area Studies (Japanese Studies Preferred)

Kanagawa University, a private institution established in Yokohama, Japan, in 1928, invites applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position in the Department of Cross-Cultural Studies, within the Faculty of Cross-Cultural and Japanese Studies, at our Minatomirai Campus. The appointment will begin April 1, 2025.

We seek applicants able to teach French language and Area Studies courses. The position is open to candidates qualified to teach French at the Japanese university level as well as society and culture, broadly defined. We especially welcome scholars of Japan from a global perspective to apply.

The successful applicant may be asked to teach French language courses at all levels, as well as courses related to their area of research. If the successful applicant is a scholar of Japan, they will be asked to teach courses in English in the department’s International Japanese Studies Program.

Applicants should speak French as their first language or have equivalent ability. French language teaching experience, particularly in Japan, is strongly desired. Candidates who are scholars of Japan should be sufficiently proficient in English to teach. Japanese ability sufficient for carrying out administrative duties is required of all applicants. The successful applicant must have completed their PhD by the time of their appointment.

As is common practice at most Japanese institutions, all ranks of these open-rank positions can be understood as tenured. Salary is competitive; precise salary level, which is linked to appointee experience, will be determined according to university guidelines. (Salary ranges may be found in the listing for this position on jREC-IN.)
